At the successful conclusion of the training

 

The ICA-AP regional office is implementing a Capacity Building project for the development of co-operatives with support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, under the Government of Japan’s Overseas Development Assistance Program. Each Project over three years has within it three training courses each year to foster leaders for the management and development of farmers’ organizations/ agricultural co-operatives; promote women’s participation in business and management of agricultural co-operatives; and foster coordinators (leaders) of agricultural co-operatives in business development.

 

The Training course on “Fostering and Improving Management of Agricultural Co-operatives in Africa-2017” was organized by ICA-AP, in Malaysia and Japan between February 12 and March 29, 2018. The objective of the training course was to assist farmers’ organizations, including agricultural co-operatives, to boost agricultural production and increase farmers’ income through the development of agriculture in African. This was the first time the training course was focused on the African continent. The training program was implemented by the ICA-AP in collaboration with the Co-operative College of Malaysia (CCM) and the Institute for the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in Asia (IDACA), Tokyo (Japan).  The Training Course was funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of the Government of Japan. 

 

The Training was formally inaugurated by Prof. Datuk Mohd. Yusof Kasim, Chairman of the Cooperative College of Malaysia, on February 13 2018, at the Training Centre of CCM. In attendance were,  Ms. Michiko Nishikawa, Second Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Malaysia; Mr. Konno Masahiro, Executive Director, IDACA; Dr. Juliawati Janius, Chief Assistant Director, Malaysian Co-operative Society Commission; Mdm. Rosmawati Zul, Assistant Manager, Agriculture and Agro-based Sector of ANGKASA; Mdm, Noor Azlinn Zahariman Mr. Sungjoon Kang, and Mr. Kim Sangmin from the Malaysia Business Office (MBO); and Mr. A.K. Taneja, Project Coordinator,  ICA-AP, New Delhi, India.

 

There were 10 participants from 10 countries – Botswana, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Tanzania, in addition to a coordinator from ICA-Africa.  The Training Course in Malaysia was conducted at the Training Centre of CCM in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.  After completing the CCM Module in Malaysia, the participants moved to IDACA Japan on March 6, 2018.  They remained in Japan till March 29. 

 

At the concluding session at IDACA on March 28 2018, Mr. Hiroaki Kinoshita, official in-charge of the training course at the Overseas Investment and Cooperation Division, International Affairs Department, MAFF;  Mr. Konno Masahiro, Executive Director, IDACA, & Mr. A.K. Taneja, addressed the participants. Mr. Taneja presented a brief report of the entire training course at the concluding session. Mr. Tito Bathlolomew Haule, the participant from Tanzania, presented a vote of thanks on behalf of all the participants.
